Testing the varying water quality at Carss Park

hypothesis: the water quality at different areas at the bay varies
aim: to test the water quality at Carss Park by looking at the pH water levels
Variable:
*Independent:
- the water
- incorrectly collected samples
*Dependant
- the affected water
Materials:
*12 pH testers
*12 plastic cups
Method:
1. Collect materials
2. Choose areas to be tested
3. Collect samples from area1
4. Add the dye, leave sample for five minutes
5. Match the adjusted water to the key
6. Repeat steps 3 through to 5 with areas 2, 3 and 4
7. Collate all information

testing

i used something a tester for my fish tank a while ago ,because all my fish died in a week, that may be suitable for my experiment . it basically tested the water. one of the issues i found with using this as an indicator was that is was difficult to read the key. other than that, it was pretty understandable. i found the tester at BIG W, but i thought i could check out some local pet stores and find anything that may be better

PH levels

so i think i have to test the PH levels. According to Micrsoft Student pH is a term indicating the hydrogen ion (positively charged hydrogen atom) concentration of a solution, a measure of the solution's acidity. basically, a system which measures free hydrogen ions within a solution. its measured on a scale from 0 to 14. below 7 is considered acidic and above 7 is in alkaline range

MY IDEA!!

so i live near a bay type thing and there is an area of the bay where i thought the water looked pretty grousse so i thought i could test the water in my local area and compare it to the standard EPA approved water.....generally just test the water and see whats in it!
